SEN Transition

We recognize that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.

At Burnside we know how important a successful transition is to our pupils with Additional Needs. We provide extra visits for those who we feel will benefit from an enhanced transition. The period of transition depends on the individual needs of the pupil. Staff will also take opportunities to visit homes, other settings including Nurseries to get a better understanding of the pupils’ needs.

This gives us an opportunity to see what is currently in place for the pupil and how we can support them at Burnside. We also liaise with their chosen secondary school to make their transition as smooth as possible. Where needed, the SENCO will attend the Annual Reviews to meet the current staff, parents and most importantly the pupil. At this meeting we hope to ease any worries or concerns for the move to Burnside. We also invite the SENCO from the secondary school to the Year 6 Annual review to pass on information and discuss their individual needs.
